EXPERT Q&A: Choosing a Van for Your Campervan Conversion

When I asked people on my Facebook campervan groups what they thought was one of the most important things about converting a panel van to a campervan they often say – FINDING A GOOD BASE VEHICLE. The décor and fittings can all be easily changed but if the van isn’t right you are not going to have a good campervan. So, I asked Barry Winterton who, with his wife Jane, tracks down and sell Vivaro/Trafic vans, what to look out for when choosing a base vehicle.

QUEST FOR A NEW CAMPERVAN: Is My Design Really So Weird?

I’ve been a bit quiet on the Campervan Quest front lately because I have been experiencing an ‘interesting’ struggle to find somebody who can help us convert our Vivaro van in the way we want it to be converted. I don’t think our design is that weird but, is it just me, or are there only 2 ways of converting a campervan at the moment  – Do-It-Yourself or an expensive, standard conversion by a professional converter who has a 6-months waiting list? I was feeling a bit down about it, but the Fates have provided a solution and I am really excited about it now…

QUEST FOR A NEW CAMPERVAN: Getting Harder to Find Good Vans

We are getting closer now to buying the base vehicle for our next campervan and Barry, our van-hunter extraordinaire, asked us if it was important to have air con in our van. Just thinking about camping in the extreme hot weather that we had recently means the answer was a big “Yes” but getting air con is not always so easy. In fact finding a good van these days at all is not so easy …

QUEST FOR A NEW CAMPERVAN: Our New Mission – Create a Contemporary campervan for £7000

I’m always amazed at the enthusiastic reactions I get from people when I tell them about our campervan, Trev-the-Prev. Mostly I get a big smile followed by “Oh I’d love to do that!” and I realise that so many people secretly want to ‘live the (campervan) dream’. It was the same for Glyn and I when we hired a campervan on a Groupon three years ago and got bitten by the bug but just didn’t have a hope of affording any van that we’d seen. So now my mission is to create a modern campervan from a panel van for £7000 (all in) and I hope that this will inspire people without a £30k+ budget to get their own and live their dream, too. Here’s how I plan to do it…

Quest for a New Campervan : Which Van is Best?

So which van have we decided on in the end? Well, this was all becoming a bit of a Grand Design and to get to that decision (which to date is still not set in stone) we have had to follow a long research road that has had lots of twists and turns. Everybody you speak to seems to throw another consideration in to the mix which sometimes seems to confuse the question more. It really is like buying a new house and secretly I am loving every minute…

Quest for a New Campervan: What Sort of Camper are You?

As much as we love Trev-the-Prev (our converted Toyota Previa) Glyn and I feel that it is now time for our next campervan.  As we won’t have the full funds until later this year, I have decided to launch myself on a full-on ‘Van Quest’, diving deep in to research on what our next van should be and the sort of questions everyone should ask themselves when they go on their own quest for a new campervan. It’s proving to be quite a journey and I’ll be sharing it with you over the next few weeks…

Welcome to My Campervan-Foodie Blog

I have to confess, I am a campervan addict (it gets you like that, doesn’t it?).  I’m also passionate about no-fuss, tasty, nutritious food and the two have now blissfully joined up in my life. Let me tell you more…

My campervan addiction started back in 2013 when my partner, Glyn, and I bought a Groupon for a week in a motorhome. Yes, it was one of the big white ones (with a bed that I say is a bit like sleeping in an MRI scanner!) but we were hooked. We had an amazing week in Cornwall and Devon (the West Country is a very magical place) and knew that, somehow, we had to get a campervan of our own.
