QUEST FOR A NEW CAMPERVAN: Good Progress at the New Forest DIY Van Converters Meetup

Yay, good news at last! We made some really good progress on converting our Vivaro campervan,  ‘Big Red’, at a DIY campervan converters meetup in the New Forest in March. We had been feeling stuck for a while but, with the help of the Dorset/Hampshire/Sussex Self-Build Get Together Facebook group, we were able to get some of the more scary things done like, putting a solar vent in the roof and cutting a hole in the side of the van for the hook-up panel. And the great thing is that this has now given us the confidence to try more of the DIY work ourselves and we can see how to do some of the trickier parts as we have our ‘converters eye’ switched on now.

EXPERT Q&A: Choosing a Van for Your Campervan Conversion

When I asked people on my Facebook campervan groups what they thought was one of the most important things about converting a panel van to a campervan they often say – FINDING A GOOD BASE VEHICLE. QUEST FOR A NEW CAMPERVAN: Is My Design Really So Weird?

I’ve been a bit quiet on the Campervan Quest front lately because I have been experiencing an ‘interesting’ struggle to find somebody who can help us convert our Vivaro van in the way we want it to be converted. I don’t think our design is that weird but, is it just me, or are there only 2 ways of converting a campervan at the moment  – Do-It-Yourself or an expensive, standard conversion by a professional converter who has a 6-months waiting list? I was feeling a bit down about it, but the Fates have provided a solution and I am really excited about it now…

QUEST FOR A NEW CAMPERVAN: Our New Mission – Create a Contemporary campervan for £7000

I’m always amazed at the enthusiastic reactions I get from people when I tell them about our campervan, Trev-the-Prev. Mostly I get a big smile followed by “Oh I’d love to do that!” and I realise that so many people secretly want to ‘live the (campervan) dream’. It was the same for Glyn and I when we hired a campervan on a Groupon three years ago and got bitten by the bug but just didn’t have a hope of affording any van that we’d seen. So now my mission is to create a modern campervan from a panel van for £7000 (all in) and I hope that this will inspire people without a £30k+ budget to get their own and live their dream, too. Here’s how I plan to do it…
